Why Wait Till New Years To Make A Resolution?

Happy Monday my loves!

When I have a client that tells me that they are having problems with their makeup not blending smoothly, that it does not cover their imperfections, it catches on dry skin (the list goes on) the first question I always ask is "What skincare are you using?" That question is usually followed with "What is your diet?"  Skincare, diet and exercise have a huge effect on how your skin looks.  If there are no imperfections...there is nothing to cover. Right?

Well, for my personal health, I have decided to do what I have been preaching about for so long.  I have acne prone skin (which I have amazing skincare that regulates it) but lately have been getting darker under eye circles, lines under the eyes and on the forehead and low energy.  Also, lets get real...between Thanksgiving and Christmas...it's not exactly easy to lose weight with so much temptation out there.

I have decided that by doing all of the things that I teach to my clients, I am going to prove that what I am saying really does work. With my concerns I listed above, I know that I need to hydrate more, get on an exercise regimen and have a better diet.  Since I am also trying to lose a couple of lb's I am putting myself on a 1,200 calorie diet with a minimum of 20 minutes of exercise 5 days a week.

I guarantee that my skin will look amazing and radiant in the next couple of weeks.  I'm excited to start this journey with all of you and look forward to obtaining a healthy body!

Why dont you make this YOUR resolution for the new year?

PS. I'm A Genius

Hello All! I hope everybody had an awesome and fun filled Thanksgiving.  I got to enjoy some much needed quality time with my family for this hearty holiday and feel so rejuvenated!

I have been rocking the red nails for the last week in honor of the holiday season but now it is time to do a look that is a little more toned down and reserved. I decided to go with the purple tones.  They are perfect for this cold and dreary weather we are having on the East Coast.  It goes well with my winter clothes and matches with almost everything!  Here is how my nails turned out.

(Left) OPI: Parlez-vous OPI?
(Right) OPI: OPI Ink

While working on the pedicure portion of my artistic polishing, I made a genius move.  My feet were freezing while I was painting my toes and it was driving me crazy.  I went into my drawer and pulled out a pair of toe socks.  I took my scissors, snipped off the tips of the toes (while i was NOT wearing them)and voila! Pedicure socks!!

You're welcome.

History Repeats Itself...But It's Never The Same.

I was cruisin through some web sites today and came across these fab fab pictures of Brigitte Bardot who was a sexy French model from the late 50's through the early 70's.  I loved looking at her photographs because the definition of "sexy" was so much more tasteful and glamorous then than it is now.  Models from her era were "real" women and I wish that things could again be what they once were.  If you take a look below, the fashion and makeup styles have made a comeback but has the tastefulness?

Fall Inspiration

Fall is here and with all of nature's colors changing, I have been so inspired with my makeup.  Green, terracotta, brown, yellow, red, plum...the color combos are never ending.  It is so fun to play with eyes, lips and cheeks and try to create a warm holiday inspired look.  Check out some of the colors I chose to wear together for the fall season.

Everyone Needs A Little Structure

Well...you might have to suck it up admit that your parents and teachers were right.  You need a little structure in your life.  Fortunately, I'm talking about structure you can buy!  Though flowing dresses and blousing shirts are still an easy "go to", in the coming seasons everybody will start to see very structured outfits hitting the streets.  I have put together a couple of examples from the worlds most renowned designers.

Bridal Makeup Cheat Sheet

One of the grueling tasks when getting married is trying to figure out how to do your makeup.  Should you stay natural?  Should you use a smokey eye?  Should you have a statement lip?  Almost every bride asks herself these questions.  After doing my fare share of wedding makeup, I have come up with my "go to" shades that look amazing on any bride.  If you're getting married, you may want to look below because I'm about to make your life A LOT easier!

Fair to Medium Complexions:

With this look, I simply went all over the lid with warm sand which has a glow and will make your eyes pop.  In the crease I put Pewter to give a little bit of depth but not too much color.  On the cheecks, Apricot Mist.  A great color to give you that perfect "Blushing Bride" look.  Lastly, on the lips you have Rich Mauve lipstick and Berry Red lip liner.  This is the perfect amount of color.  If you go lighter than this shade, your lips will not show up in photographs.

Medium to Dark Complexions:

I love doing darker complexions because you can give a slightly sultry look without over doing it.  This is a really fun look for darker tones.  On the lid, i colored the lash line in with a heavy black line (Black Magic Eye Liner) which went a quarter of the way up the lid and then smudged it until it was evenly distributed and a medium grey color.  I then pressed Truffle Eye Shadow (a darker shimmery chocolate brown) on top of the smudged liner.  Right above these colors in the crease, I buffed out any harsh lines with Goddess Shadow (shimmery Gold).  Goddess is also a fabulous color to brighten darker skin tones (LOVE it).  Bump lashes with Black Mascara and fill in the lip with Chocolate Mousse lipstick and Chestnut lip liner.

These looks are very simple to achieve and look fab on any bride!

To Spray Or Not To Spray....Is It Really A Question?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with creamy porcelain skin.  It is beautiful, it makes makeup pop, it is lovely.  Some people can pull it off beautifully but if you are like me and have pink undertones, dark circles and blue veins that show up all too well....you might want to consider going under the gun (spray gun that is).  I do not encourage laying out in the sun or tanning beds unless it is infrequent and for the purpose of getting a little Vitamin D.

One huge thing that I would also like to point out is that spray tanning is not just for the pale girls!  For all of my ethnic ladies out there, spraying can be a great solution to blotchy or uneven skin.  It is very common for women of color to have the "halo" on their faces, light/dark spots from injuries/scars or general uneven tone.  Go to your local tanning salon, buy a spray session and kiss your imperfections goodbye!

Many people think that spray tanning is scary and it absolutely is if you do not know how to do it correctly.  If done incorrectly you could end up looking like a pumpkin with leprosy.  Not a good look.  Below I will tell you exactly how to get the perfect faux tan and avoid disaster.

STEP 1: EXFOLIATE AND SHAVE

Your skin cells are constantly trying to renew themselves and push away the old cells.  You have to remove that dead skin otherwise the dead cells (which cause that dry/flaky look) will absorb more of the tanner and cause darker uneven spots.  Shaving is also important.  On top of it being another form of exfoliation,  once you have tanned, shaving will strip your tan off of your skin and that is literally money down the drain.

STEP 2: MOISTURIZE

This is very important.  In conjunction to what I said in step 1, you really want to hydrate your skin so that any dry skin you may have will not absorb more of the tanner than other areas of your body.  Focus on knees, ankles, heels, elbows, toes and nail cuticles.

STEP 3: TAN

If you are going to a tanning booth all you have to do is step in, push the start button and a ladies voice tells you step by step what to do.  If you are spray tanning at home, it may take a couple of tries but you have to make sure you spray every single part of your body.  This sounds obvious but I promise, you will miss places the first time.  If you do miss spots, wait until the tan develops, lightly spray the areas you missed and blend with a sunless mitt (described in step 4).  My personal favorite spray tan is Versa.  Many people do Mystic Tan but if you are as white as I am, Mystic still looks Simpsons-ish.  Versa turns you the perfect shade of ooooo la la.

STEP 4: BLEND

Whether you are in a tanning booth or using an at home self tanner, you must blend.  Many tanners say "streak free" but that is a bunch of bologna.  My favorite product for this is a $4.99 Ulta Sunless Mitt.  Put the mitt on your hand and after you have applied your tanner, gently rub it on you skin in a circular motion.  Do not rub hard.  That is just unnecessary.

STEP 5: DEVELOP

DO NOT let your skin get wet until your tan processes or else it will stop developing!!  This includes sweating and wet little dog noses that want to sniff you (I learned that the hard way).  I usually tan before I go to bed and then rinse in my morning shower.  If you do not want to get too dark, keep an eye on how the tan is developing and when you get to your desired color, hop in the shower and rinse that bad boy off.

MAINTENANCE:

Once you have tanned, I suggest you respray every week to week and a half.  When your skin gets wet from showering, swimming or washing your hands, pat your skin dry. DO NOT RUB!  Last but not least, moisturize.  You should be doing this anyways but just as a friendly reminder, please make sure you are applying your lotion or using your shower oils every day!!

I hope this helps you and if you have any questions, leave me a message in the comments box below!

September Is Hot Hot Hot!

With Fall around the corner, new styles and trends are popping up every time you turn your head.  For those fashionistas out there, you know about Vogue's September Issue.  For all of you who do not know about it, let me fill you in.  The September issue of Vogue is the most important issue of the year.  It is the fashion bible that catalogs all of the upcoming styles, looks, makeup, designers and trends for fall and the upcoming year. *I also recommend you watch the "September Issue" documentary*  When I opened my mailbox and saw that giant magazine wedged in there, I realized the seasons are about to change....and so will my wardrobe.

Here are a few of the trends that you will be seeing everywhere.
